Promoting the "Belt and Road" China needs more international compound talents.

CCTV News: Innovation is the first driving force for development. The SCO’s innovative cooperation in security, economy, trade, energy and humanities has been continuously enhanced. At present, no matter whether it is "going out" entrepreneurs or international partners who have started the "Belt and Road" initiative, the most urgent demands and problem solutions are almost all "talents". Recently, CCTV interviewed Wang Huiyao, director of the Globalization Think Tank (CCG), to explain the "international talents".

What is the international compound talent like?

Wang Huiyao believes that international compound talents mainly include several aspects.

First, I have some international experience. Even if you have never been abroad, you have experience in dealing with international affairs, working in an international multinational company, working in an international organization, or communicating with international people at a large academic conference. In short, you must have experience in international communication.

Second, it has a certain international perspective. They are in the motherland, have a world outlook and a global vision, not just from one country.

Third, have certain international communication skills. For example, knowing an international language, understanding the culture of a certain country, and even knowing many languages, having special research on a certain country, or having special opinions on the industry of a certain country.

International compound talents, able to communicate across cultures, can get along very well with people of various "isms". Not to say that you can only get along with Chinese, but not foreigners. This kind of person is really needed.

Because to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and to implement a new round of globalization, China needs a large number of talented people from Qian Qian. To recruit talents from all over the world, we need not only talents trained in China, but also talents from all over the world to be attracted to China. Give them channels, ties, pipelines and networks for talent exchange. If China has such a network of international talents, it will be much smoother in the process of promoting globalization in the future.

What skills should international talents master to be more competitive?

Wang Huiyao believes that there is more need to cultivate innovative talents. Talents need to go abroad, and they should strengthen international exchanges when they are in college. For example, go to the international rotation, including going to summer camp, including being an exchange student, including this international interaction and so on.

At present, many famous universities have such exchange students. In Wang Huiyao’s view, the proportion of such exchange students can be expanded. Now it may be limited to some key schools of the Ministry of Education. In the future, it can be extended to all universities in China. In fact, each university can have its own unique exchange program. What universities need to do very much is to cultivate students’ international vision. Education is often an important combination point.

In addition, it is necessary to attract more international students. Improve the internationalization ratio of our school, and at the same time train these international students, hoping that they can become a bridge and link between China and the local area after returning home.

College students need to master more international languages. Not only English, but also various other small languages are especially needed. In addition, we need to be more familiar with local countries. For example, there are many countries in the SCO countries, which are unfamiliar to our college students now. This may be the focus of our breakthrough.

Wang Huiyao suggested that young people should know about the cultures, customs, religions, laws, including geopolitics of these countries, which are very necessary for college students to be familiar with. We college students should form partnerships and become friends with young people from these countries. Including visiting these countries, young people from these countries are also welcome to visit China, and short-term exchange visits to these countries, including their coming to China to attend summer camps, are all very good forms.

From talent flow to talent return

Wang Huiyao believes that in the past 40 years of development, China has become the world’s largest exporter of studying abroad and the world’s largest returnee. Now a positive cycle has been formed. Every year, our international talents come in and out, forming a benign cycle. Every year, people keep going international, gain international experience, get international degrees and engage in international career. After you come back, you will promote China and international cooperation.

Including our internet economy, artificial intelligence, biomedicine and other high technologies are very developed now, because a large number of our talents have participated in the international talent cycle. In the future, this great cycle may not only involve China students, but also involve international students in China, which will bring greater development and support to China.

China’s influence will continue to expand as students from China go to the world, and as foreign students come to China and return to their countries, they will continue to build larger and wider contacts.
